Mission

To bring fun, joy and love into the lives of our Havanese and the families who love them!! To raise healthy, sturdy, temperamentally sound puppies and to place them with well matched owners.

Our Philosophy

We at Lucky Havanese find this breed to be most appealing dog breed for several reasons. The silky Havanese coat comes in a variety of colors, is hypoallergenic and has little to no shedding. Havanese are minimal barkers. They are small in size and can’t eat you out of house and home! Havanese have few health concerns compared to other breeds.

Our aim is to provide the best little companions we can to the homes of dog lovers everywhere. They do well in small homes and apartments. They love being outside and going for walks of course, but they can get most of their exercise inside the home.

Some of the steps we take to bring Havanese and their owners together:

01.

We select healthy, happy, and temperamentally sound AKC Havanese to become our own family members. They live with us in our homes; not in a detached kennel.

02.

We carefully match our dams and sires to produce the best pups we can, always looking to improve the breed and our own stock. We welcome you to visit your puppy and it grows and gets ready to leave its mother.

03.

We are available for as long as you need us in making the transition to becoming a Lucky Havanese puppy parent. You can pick your puppy up, or we can bring your puppy to you. We never ship puppies as cargo, but we can deliver by car or plane. We provide a health guarantee against life threatening diseases.

History

For hundreds of years, aristocratic Spaniards in Cuba owned Havanese dogs. They were a luxury for the wealthy. Havanese were not commonly owned by those of more modest means because they could not perform any work. They were a mouth to feed that could not earn their keep.

In modern times, what work must most dogs perform? Today there are still working dogs out there: dogs that herd livestock, dogs that work in police canine units, dogs that assist hunters, etc. But most of us do not have specific work that we need our dogs to do. Or do we?

Today if you ask the average American about their work and life, they might report high levels of stress. Perhaps even some anxiety or depression. Many dog owners have found that the most important “work” a dog can perform for them is to freely give and receive affection. Dogs an help us decompress from the stress of our lives. A Havanese knows very well how to give and receive love. He knows how to entertain. He knows how to play. He knows how to live in the moment. He wants to be with you. Havanese help us be happy at the end of a stressful day.

The AKC recognized Havanese as a separate breed in 1996. They are very closely related to the better known Bichon Frise and Maltese breeds. One distinct difference between Havanese and those breeds is that those breeds are generally white, whereas Havanese come in every possible color. Havanese have rapidly jumped in popularity, and in 2020 they were touted by the AKC as the 24th most desired breed in the United States.

One reason for their popularity is that they do well living in apartments, or small homes. They love to be outside, but can get enough daily exercise by just running around in the house. They can be doggy door trained, or puppy pad trained, crate trained, depending on your homes logistics. Still, so many of us have not yet had the pleasure of having one for ourselves. Many people have never even heard of the breed.
